Las Vegas is home to a variety of unique and famous buildings and architectural wonders. The city itself is said to have inspired and encouraged postmodernist architecture.
Famous buildings
The Guardian Angel Cathedral by Paul Revere Williams. A Mid-century building designed by Paul Revere Williams, the first African-American architect.
Lou Ruvo Centre for Brain Health by Frank Gehry. An abstract building, it functions as a medical centre for mental illnesses, built according to decontructivism( postmodern architectural style).
Bellagio Hotel and Casino: one of the most famous buildings in Las Vegas, it was built by architect DeRyuter Butler. Nowadays, it is accompanied by the Spa Tower and it is known for the aritifical lake with fountains that really sets the tone for visitors.
The Stratosphere Tower: the largest free standing tower in the US (350 m). Built in 1996, the tower is also home to a variety of rides including Sky Jump Vegas, a bungee -jumping ride.
Trump International Hotel and Tower: it was commisioned by Donald Trump as a real estate agent to serve as a testament to wealth,luxury and fame. It has a variety of luxury restaurants and stands at the imposing height of 189 metres.
Cultural attractions
Las Vegas Strip that is known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos.
The Strip, as it is known, is about 6.8 km long and one of the most popular and iconic tourist destinations in the world and is one of the driving forces for Las Vegas' economy.
Las Vegas Neon Museum: this cultural attraction provides a glimpse at the history of Las Vegas in addition to the technological developments of neon signs.
The Mob Museum: this museum recounts the history of organized crime in the United States. Familiar names like Al Capone and Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel can be encountered in the exhibition.
Las Vegas Natural History Museum: the museum has a range of exhibitions ranging from dinosaurs and other prehsitoric creatures to the life of Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamen.
