Las Vegas
The economy of Vegas
The economy of Las Vegas relies on gaming (casinos), tourism and entertainment industries. The unemployment rate in Las Vegas is higher than the national average with approximately 6,7% of the population.
Largest employers: Interestingly the most jobs provided by single employers can be found in the military instead of the gaming, tourism and the entertainment industry. One such example is the Nellis Air Force Base, providing a job opportunity for more than 12.000 military and civilian employees. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police contributes to the employment rate of the city by 7000 jobs. However, the gaming, tourism and entertainment businesses altogether provide 315.000 jobs. Of all the industries, the construction, the leisure & hospitality and the professional and business industries contribute the most to the economy of the city.
